Acupuncture
Every individual is unique, therefore every treatment will be unique to the individual. What can Acupuncture treat?Acupuncture aims to treat the patient rather than the disease and since every illness is a result of an imbalance of Qi, (life energy, pronounced chee) acupuncture can be used to help almost every condition. Examples of conditions regularly encountered in an acupuncture clinic:
What is Acupuncture?Acupuncture is an ancient healing technique used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (T.C.M), but is now practised throughout the world. Fundamental to Chinese medical philosophy behind acupuncture is the concept of Qi. Everything in the universe and in the body is a manifestation of Qi. The Qi that flows through the body travels along channels called meridians. There are twelve main meridians, six of which have characteristics referred to as 'Yin' and six of which have characteristics referred to as 'Yang'. Acupuncture treats the 'whole person'Acupuncture treats each individual patient as a whole person, not just as separate body parts. All aspects of the body and mind are connected, therefore a problem in one area may have an effect elsewhere. The aim of acupuncture is to treat the cause of illness not just the symptoms, and bring the individual back into a more integrated state of balanced health. How does Acupuncture work?Acupuncture works by tapping into the meridians to ensure Yin and Yang are balanced, because illness and poor health are a result of poor imbalance or blockage within the body. The bodys balance is restored by the acupuncturist inserting very fine needles into the meridians, which balance Yin and Yang, and help restore the bodys energetic harmony (i.e. the flow of Qi). There are specific areas along the meridians called 'acupuncture points' and they relate to different areas of the body and its function, and different aspects of Qi, Yin and Yang. The acupuncturist chooses the pints to use based upon the patients symptoms and diagnosis from a T.C.M perspective. Acupuncture is safe and holisticAcupuncture is a safe and holistic treatment that can be used in conjunction with other forms of medicine. However, because some medications mask certain medical symptoms, it is important that the patient bring along a list of all the medication they are currently taking with them for the first appointment.
